Does "Liberty and Justice for All" mean Everyone?

Is the Bill of Rights Important Anymore?

There's a potential battle brewing across Texas. While it doesn't appear to some folks to be anything more than a skirmish between a couple of different viewpoints in the legal profession, the outcome could impact a wide range of Texans.

The topic is advertising by lawyers. A small group of attorneys have been courting the state's legal policymakers, calling on the State Bar of Texas to further restrict or even totally ban lawyer advertising. Some seem to believe that such advertising is unseemly or even tacky. Others just don't think that lawyers should be promoting their profession or practice anywhere but in private conversations at civic or social events.

Yet, in most people's minds, such a move would make a big impact on constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech and limit the access of many Texans to our judicial system, largely the result of sociocultural barriers.
